Four Days of Activities for an Authentic Mexican Vacation
Cabo San Lucas hasn’t always been all about beaches and margaritas. During the colonial time, sailors knew the coast of Baja California very well.Galleons loaded with goods, which traveled between Manila and Acapulco, stored up on water and food supplies at an estuary near San Jose del Cabo. Since Francisco de Ulloa discovered it in 1537, Los Cabos, was a point of nautical reference; and later in 1730, the government of New Spain ordered Father Nicholas Tamaral to found a fort and a Jesuit mission in San Jose.
During your stay at The Resort at Pedregal, you can dive into the wonderful history and culture of Los Cabos with our Curate Cabo Itinerary.
Take a city tour of Cabo San Lucas. This tour will take you to Land´s End on a glass bottom boat where you’ll get to discover Lovers and Divorce beach. You’ll see the famous Arch that has become a true icon of Cabo. When you’re back on dry land, visit the Glass Blowing Factory. Glass has been hand blown by almost every culture since ancient times. Cabo San Lucas is home to what was for many years the only glass factory on the Baja peninsula. Watching the artisans blow glass is mesmerizing, the technique truly fascinating. There's a shop on-site for purchasing glassware, figurines, plates and bowls to commemorate your visit!
Time for a short drive back to downtown where you can wander the streets, take advantage of the shopping and indulge in some fresh seafood by the marina. Before your return to The Resort at Pedregal, there will be a quick stop to view the Old Tuna Cannery which was established in 1917.
Relax back at The Resort at Pedregal and dine at Don Manuel’s restaurant, where you can select from a traditional Mexican style menu or a more modern menu fusing the flavors of Mexico with new techniques.
After a hearty breakfast in Su Cocina (we recommend our famous French toast!), it’s time to head to Todos Santos, a small coastal town at the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains. Todos Santos is located on the Pacific coast side of the Baja California Peninsula, about an hour's drive north of Cabo San Lucas. Todos Santos is located very near the Tropic of Cancer in the municipality of La Paz. The population is while driving to Todos Santos. Make sure you visit the legendary Hotel California and hear the famous song by the Eagles! The Casa de la Cultura (House of Culture) is a really interesting Cultural Organization to stop but there is also a great variety of art galleries, ranging from sculpture to paintings to jewelry. Our favorite lunch spots here are the Sunrise Margarita Restaurant, Santa Fe, and Café Todos Santos.
Upon return to The Resort at Pedregal, relax at the Luna y Mar Spa where every single treatment starts with a traditional Mexican foot cleansing ritual – after all that walking and shopping, it will soothe any sore feet! Our Baja Ancient Massage is a unique experience that detoxes your body using elements and techniques that have been handed down from generation to generation. Using lemons and herbs to relax, release and heal the body along with ancient therapies to restore balance and rejuvenate the mind, body, and soul.
Today we are going explore San Jose, the old town. You can visit the residential area with panoramic views, the historic Palmilla Beach and visit Puerto Los Cabos, the new marina. La Playita is a charming fishing village community that deserves a visit. Walk around historic Downtown and its main Square, art galleries, enjoy a tequila tasting and have some time for shopping and dinner. If your visit is from November to June you must visit the Art Walk! Artists from all over the world gather at the San Jose del Cabo Gallery District and exhibit their pieces every Thursday from 5-9 pm, offering wine and local drinks to their guests. You will be able to admire sculpture, jewelry, paintings, pottery etc. Don’t forget to leave some room in your luggage for all of your purchases!
For your last day in Cabo, let us elevate your senses with one of our incredible culinary classes. Work with our Executive Chef as he guides you through how to prepare delicious, fresh Mexican ceviches and salsas. Seafood is in abundance here in Cabo San Lucas and we love to remain true to our heritage, teaching us how to layer flavors together to give you a real taste of Mexico!
If cooking isn’t your thing, perhaps enjoy a Spanish class with Sofia and let her teach you some key phrases to show off to your friends back home.
As you leave us, don’t forget to take your complimentary bottle of Clase Azul tequila – bottled especially for The Resort at Pedregal as a souvenir of your visit. It will make you want to come back for more!
Now, this is for culture junkies but if you are looking for some R&R by the pool with a Cucumber Jalapeño Margarita, we can definitely make your wishes come true!
